Kortney & John

Styled to perfection, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, we woke super early to photograph these two for their engagement session.

The Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo were the location, a traditional NYC landmark (one I’ve been trying to avoid for a long time because of the crazy amount of tourists) but needless to say incredibly stunning and unbelievably welcoming on a Saturday at 5am in the morning (pro tip there).

I’m not the kind of photographer who will just pose people like everyone is doing it in order to make it look Instagram-able or cool. Heck, I barely pose people, I have been avoiding it for ten years now. But the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone came and the need to push my boundaries and see how I could mix my documentary eye with the traditional portrait visual was too much to pass.

We talked about it for months, did all sort of research on the concept and we went with it.

They are a young fun couple, we had many laughs and by the end of the session we felt like friends who knew each other for ages. Thank you Kourtney and John for allowing me to document your love. It was an amazing experience!
